A short trip around the lake or a long day in the Allgäu? The route information will help you choose. They apply to the circular tour described in each case from its official starting point; The journey from the hostel may be added. Travel times do not include longer breaks.
THE CLASSIC BY THE WATER
This round combines lots of water views with the villages around the Forggensee. From the boat harbor in Füssen it goes via Rieden and Roßhaupten to the other side of the lake. In the Hegratsried and Schwangau area, new perspectives of the mountains and the royal castles continue to open up.
The route is suitable for a whole day of excursions with a swimming break, snack or photo stops. Even though many sections roll comfortably, there are smaller gradients. Drive considerately on shared paths. The water level changes the appearance of the reservoir significantly over the course of the year; In summer the typical large body of water awaits you.
Good to know: A connection by ship depends on the season. Clarify with the operator in advance whether you want to take your bike with you and whether there is free capacity.
SHORT ROUND WITH MOUNTAIN VIEWS
Around the Bannwaldsee, this tour combines meadow landscapes, small towns and views of the Ammergau mountains. The official round starts at the Karbrücke in Schwangau-Brunnen and leads back via Mühlberg, Bayerniederhofen and the Hegratsried area.
With comparatively few meters in altitude, it is a good choice for a shorter cycling trip. The journey remains varied because you alternate between the lakeshore, open meadows and village surroundings. From the hostel to the official entrance you need additional distance and time; The kilometer information does not include this journey.
Good to know: This round leads through the landscape around the lake. It is not a continuous, direct riverside path.
FOUR WATERS. A LITTLE TOUR.
Mittersee, Obersee, Alatsee and Weißensee make this short round particularly varied. You alternate between the open lake shore and the quieter forest landscape near Bad Faulenbach. Especially with several breaks, the manageable route turns into a relaxing half day.
The starting point for the variant mentioned here is at the parking lot in Bad Faulenbach. The tour is short, but not completely flat. Some paths are also used by walkers. For swimming stops, choose designated entrances and secure your bike so that the paths remain clear.
Good to know: You can find the exact route in the pleasure bike map.
TWO LAKES IN THE PRE-ALPS
This round connects the shore landscape of Hopfen with the Weißensee and the paths in between. On the Hopfensee you can take a break on the promenade, on the Weißensee you can take a short detour to the water. On the way, the appeal lies in the alternation between mountain panoramas, meadows and the small settlements in front of the Alps.
With a good two hours of driving time, the tour is suitable for half a day; Anyone who goes for a bath or a rest plans for longer. The official version starts at the village shop in Hopfen. You can choose your route from the hostel to suit your needs, but you should add these kilometers when planning your day.
Good to know: Pictures: Hopfensee and cycling in the Allgäu. View the route and junctions on the tour map before starting.
CYCLING WITH REFRESHMENT
The Kneipp cycle tour combines exercise with water stations in the landscape around Füssen. Instead of collecting kilometers as quickly as possible, you can consciously take breaks here, take off your shoes and experience the water at the designated facilities.
The circular tour is suitable for guests who want to combine cycling and relaxation. With the interruptions, the excursion takes significantly longer than the actual travel time. The water systems depend on seasonal operation. Pack a small towel and choose the stops that make you feel comfortable.
Good to know: Starting points and Kneipp facilities are marked on the official pleasure bike map.
FOREST PATHS AND WIDE VIEWS
This round leads from the Hopfen area to the southern Hopferwald. The landscape here appears quieter than on the large lake shores: forest sections alternate with meadows and views of the mountains. A good choice if you like to spend the trip a little away from the most famous motifs.
The route has more climbs than a pure bank trip. Choose a bike that is suitable for changing surfaces and check the official route in advance. A break in hops can be followed at the end. The journey from the Füssen center to the entrance also counts.
A LONGER DAY IN ALLGÄU
It's worth setting aside a whole day for this big tour. From Hopfen you go through the hilly foothills of the Alps with meadows, small towns and the landscape that many people associate with the Allgäu. This time the royal castles remain in the background - the ride itself is the focus.
Almost sixty kilometers require more endurance than the short sea tours. Take enough water with you and plan breaks carefully. If you use an e-bike, consider the battery range and additional travel of Füssen. The length mentioned here applies to the variant from hops onwards.
Good to know: The pictures show the Allgäu cycling landscape. For the complete route, use the official map.
