Historical view of the Gasthof zur Post in Füssen, recommended by J. Ostheimer
A historical view of our house: the Gasthof zur Post.

ONE HOUSE. MANY GENERATIONS.

Over 500 years.
Open doors.

Our house in Reichenstraße has experienced many lives: as an inn, as part of the Royal Post Office and today as a temporary home for travelers from all over the world.

After the fire of 1469, it was rebuilt with stones from the Lech. When the innkeeper became postmaster in the early 18th century, the name changed from “Zum güldenen Lewen” to “Zum goldenen Posthorn”. The property also included a carriage barn and stables for six horses.

From then to now

  1. 1469

The house burns to the ground and is rebuilt.

  2. 18. century

The well-known inn “Zum güldenen Lewen” and the post office become “Zum goldenen Posthorn”.

  3. 1829

Crown Prince Maximilian, the later King Max II, and his brother Otto, the later King of Greece, are guests.

  4. 1838

The royal family of Württemberg arrives with Crown Prince Karl Friedrich Alexander, the queen, two daughters and court entourage.

  5. 1840

Duke Max of Bavaria visits the house with Prince Ludwig. In the same year, King Wilhelm I of Württemberg is also a guest with accompaniment.

  6. 1846

Duke Max travels with his wife and three daughters - including Elisabeth, the future Empress of Austria.

  7. 2013

With the Bavaria City Hostel a new chapter of hospitality begins in the historic house.

WITH HEART. WITH HISTORY. WITH FAMILY.

Ostheimer family.
Rooted here.

Our family history in Füssen extends to 15. century back. The family crest awarded to 1530 is still part of our logo today and connects the hostel with this long tradition.

Our family's ancestors purchased the inn at an auction. Maria Ostheimer, the grandmother of the current host, later lived here and ran a two-story men's outfitter with her husband.

While studying mechanical engineering and business administration, Dominik Ostheimer developed the idea of hosting guests in the house again. With the support of his family, he planned the renovation, designed the beds and worked on the walls himself. 2013 opened the hostel.

Today we are looking forward to people who want to discover Füssen. As an enthusiastic hiker, cyclist and backpacker, Dominik is happy to share his experiences with you - and help you with your next good plan.

There's a lot of personal work involved in everyday hostel life: Dominik takes care of the organization and looks after the guests himself. He even sews the special hygiene covers for the beds on his sewing machine. For him, the encounters with open, curious people from many countries are what makes the hostel so special.

Many of our guests travel through Europe on foot or by bike. Our partnerships with Bett+Bike, Wanderbares Deutschland, the Romantic Road and the Lechweg connect us with these travelers. Others stay for a little break, discover the old town or visit the royal castles. This means that very different travel stories come together in the house.

At the digital info point you can find information about events, bus connections and castle tickets via QR code. There are personal tips: Dominik knows large parts of the Lechweg from his own hikes and regularly cycles on stages of the Romantic Road. His interests also include mountaineering, climbing and paragliding. The conversations at reception sometimes turn into more than ideas for excursions - many friendships have already been formed here.

Welcome to us.
Your Ostheimer family
