FÜSSEN DISCOVER
Our hostel is located on Reichenstraße, in the middle of the historic old town. Many discoveries begin right outside the door. You can take a short walk or a whole cultural day between painted facades, churches, art and the banks of the Lech.
YOUR STARTING POINT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EVENT
In the Reichenstraße, historical facades, small shops and cafés come together. You can set off straight from our hostel and let yourself wander through the streets. Away from the main street, there are always quieter corners, passageways and small squares.
Take time to look up: colours, roof shapes and details of the façades reveal a great deal about the town. You can combine a walk with the Hohes Schloss, St. Mang and the banks of the Lech. The excursion map and cultural overview help you find your bearings; later, you are sure to find your own favourite lane.
Good to know: For a quiet city walk, it's worth taking the early morning or evening if you have time between excursions.
BAROQUE AND FÜSEN MUSIC HISTORY
The former Benedictine monastery of St. Mang characterizes the city on Lech. Inner courtyards, church and the large building complex give the district its special character. In the city museum Füssen you can find out, among other things, why lute and violin making was so important for Füssen.
The visit combines architecture with local history and is also suitable for a rainy day. You can add a walk through Lechhalde and across the bridge to your museum tour. Families should check the current activities for children, which offer a playful way to discover the historical topics.
Good to know: Church and museum are different visiting areas. For exhibitions, check opening times and admission at the museum.

THE VIEW OVER THE ROOFS
The path up to the High Castle leads from the alleys directly to one of the most striking buildings in Füssen. In the inner courtyard, the facade painting makes the windows and bay windows appear spatial. The galleries complement the visit with art in historical rooms.
If you want to combine city sightseeing and culture, the castle is an obvious stop. Depending on which area is open, you also get a view of the old town. From here you can continue the walk into the tree garden. You can find a more detailed description and more pictures on our castles page.
Good to know: Exhibition, towers and courtyard may have different visiting times.
A QUIET PLACE ABOVE THE LANE
Behind the High Castle lies the tree garden with green paths and places for a break. After the busier old town streets, this area seems pleasantly quiet. Old walls and perspectives on the surrounding area connect the walk with the historic cityscape.
You can visit the Baumgarten as a short break or incorporate it into your city tour. You need a little time to climb up from the old town, but at the top there is a relaxed counterpoint to the bank and the Reichenstraße. Take a quiet moment before moving on to the next attraction.
Good to know: The garden is a nice break between a visit to the castle and a tour of the old town.
TURQUOISE WATER AND ROCKS
At Lechfall the water falls over the steps into the gorge below. The view of the river is one of the striking natural motifs directly at Füssen. Already on the way along the banks of the Lech you can experience the city from a different perspective - with the monastery, bridges and the water in between.
Combine the visit with a walk through the old town or, if the paths are open, with the forest adventure center in Ziegelwies. Entrances and individual paths may be temporarily closed. Therefore, check the current information from Füssen Tourismus before you start, especially if you want to extend the route.
Good to know: There are temporary construction and road closures for the area Lechfall. The current hiking report is crucial for your specific route.
CHURCHES IN THE CITY AND COUNTRYSIDE
Churches shape Füssen and its surroundings in very different ways. The painted hospital church on the Lechhalde is perfect for a walk through the old town, St. Mang for a visit to the monastery district. St. Coloman stands outside the city in Schwangau in front of the mountain and castle backdrop.
You can take a quiet cultural walk in the city or combine a visit to church with your trip to Schwangau. Interior spaces are not accessible at all times; Church services and local information take precedence. Even from the outside, the architecture and location are nice reasons to stop for a moment.
Good to know: St. Coloman is located in Schwangau and is therefore part of a separate excursion from Füssen.
AN EVENING IN FORGGENSEE
At Forggensee, the festival hall combines culture with an impressive waterfront location. A musical, concert or other stage program can round off a day of excursions. The surrounding area with the view of the lake and mountains is a separate part of the visit.
Choose your event according to the current schedule and plan the arrival and return journey to suit the time. A performance is a different excursion than a walk in Füssen's old town: the house is outside the center by the lake. From the hostel, such an evening can easily be combined with a quiet day in the city.
Good to know: Check tickets and program directly with the organizer; our hostel is your starting point for the evening.
CULTURE, ANIMALS AND WATER TIME
A rainy day doesn't have to slow down your vacation. Museum and galleries bring you closer to the history of Füssen; In the reptile zoo you can observe in peace. The indoor tips from Füssen Tourism are also a good help for families when making their selection.
Plan a manageable trip and leave room for a break in the old town streets. If you are considering a day of swimming in a thermal spa, check the current operations and age regulations. Our family page presents the options in more detail, while the indoor flyer collects more ideas in and around Füssen.
Good to know: You can find the most important options with pictures and current operator links on our family page.
EXPERIENCE THE REGION ON SPECIAL DATES
When the flames rise above the pile of wood at an Easter fire, an evening in the region becomes a shared experience. Our pictures show a fire in the dark and the visitors at the edge of the square. Such events give an insight into local customs and are a perfect complement to a stay around Easter.
Change location, organizer and date. Before your trip, take a look at the current event calendar in Füssen and the surrounding area. You can also discover other festivals, guided tours and musical evenings. Warm clothing is recommended for events outside; plan your arrival and return journey to suit the actual venue.
Good to know: The images are archive recordings and are not an announcement of a specific date.
