FOR FAMILIES
A family vacation needs variety – and enough time for the little discoveries along the way. Here you will find short trips in Füssen, things to do in neighboring towns and ideas for rainy days. You can check the age, opening times and seasonal offers with the respective operator.
ADVENTURES AMONG THE TREES
At the Ziegelwies Forest Adventure Center, the forest becomes an excursion destination for the whole family. On the treetop path you can look at trees, Lech and mountains from up to 21 meters above sea level. The path even leads over the border between Germany and Austria.
Down in the forest, the alluvial forest and mountain forest paths complement the excursion: this is about discovering, moving and trying things out. The exhibition “My Forest” offers another station. You don't have to do everything in one day - choose the areas appropriate to the age of the children and make time for the play stations.
Good to know: The treetop path and the other areas have different access requirements. Check current opening times and prices with the operator.

DISCOVER ANIMALS CLOSE UP
In the reptile zoo in Magnus Park, children and adults encounter animals that are rarely seen in everyday life. Terrariums and aquariums make the visit a good opportunity to take a closer look: How do the animals move, how do they hide and how do their habitats differ?
The excursion is also interesting for a rainy day and can be combined with a walk through Füssen. Plan at a slow pace so that the children have time to observe. The operator publishes the current visiting times; check them before you go.
Good to know: A manageable excursion that works even without a long daily plan.
KNIGHTS, FAIRY TALE AND CLIMBING IDEAS
Pfronten distributes its themed playgrounds across several districts. Different play worlds make it more than just a short break: children can climb, balance and let their imagination run wild. Choose a place in advance that suits your age and interests.
You can combine the visit with a walk or an excursion in Pfronten. Several playgrounds in one day are possible, but it is often nicer to give enough time to a favorite spot. The overview of Pfronten shows the location and equipment of the individual systems.
Good to know: The overview from Pfronten shows the equipment and location of the individual playgrounds. Our gallery shows nature experiences in the Füssen region.
A TRIP TO THE OBERALLGÄU
In the Weidachwald forest in Fischen, a short adventure trail leads through the squirrel habitat. The small stations at the “children’s gates” make the walk interesting even when the animals are hiding. With a bit of luck you can see them in the trees.
Fishing is further away from Füssen than our other short family tips. Therefore, plan this visit as a conscious trip to Oberallgäu. The actual path is short; The journey there and back is the larger part of the day. Please observe animals calmly and follow the instructions on site.
Good to know: No wildlife sighting is guaranteed.
MOUNTAIN DAY IN BUCHING
The Buchenberg at Buching offers a family trip with a mountain feeling. The difference in height can be overcome with the chairlift; Above, the focus is on views and hiking trails. This way you can adapt the day to the children's stamina instead of planning a long climb to the summit.
The hiking suggestion from the pleasure hiking map leads from the valley station to the Buchenbergalm. The values given describe this climb; You can shorten it by train. Choose additional high-altitude trails to suit your endurance. The ride on the open chairlift is its own part of the experience; The operator's specifications apply to younger children. A mountain day also requires suitable clothing, even if it is warm in the valley.
Good to know: At the top, the excursion can be combined with the Gamssteig. Check with the operator in advance which routes and offers are currently open.

BALL RUN AND PLAY STATIONS ON THE MOUNTAIN
On Buchenberg near Buching, a walk turns into a small day of adventure. On the Gamssteig there are wooden marble runs, exercise stations and constant views of the Lake District. Children can try things out, observe and move from station to station. Our photos show the wooden chamois, the marble run and the views along the way.
The approximately one kilometer long adventure trail is located near the mountain station and can be combined with a ride on the Buchenbergbahn. Around 100 meters of altitude are still part of the tour. For families looking for a short hike with breaks to play, this is a nice addition to the mountain panorama and a place to stop.
Good to know: Allow additional time for stops and breaks. Shoes with non-slip soles make sense. Check train operations and current access information in advance.
TOBOGGAN FUN ON RAILS
The rail-guided toboggan run starts directly in the valley at the Alpspitzbahn. First the uphill lift pulls you up over the meadows; Then curves, waves, bridges and tunnels lead back to the starting point. The descent is around 1.110 meters long. The own video shows the driveway, which opens up a view of the facility.
You can plan the coaster as a short family trip or combine it with the mountain day in Nesselwang. It is not possible to get on at the middle station. Age and size rules apply to children: According to the operator, they are allowed to ride alone from the age of eight and 1,35 meters. Younger children aged three to seven travel with a suitable accompanying person in accordance with current regulations.
Good to know: Check current opening and complete usage rules with the operator. The coaster has its own tickets; plan further mountain offers separately.
PLANNED TOUR WITH ALTERNATIVE
The Pöllat Gorge below Neuschwanstein (Schloss Neuschwanstein) is known for the combination of water, rocks and castle landscape. According to the current advice from Füssen Tourism, the gorge path is closed until further notice. Therefore, do not plan it as a walkable family hike.
A nice alternative is a walk along the Alpsee or a visit to the forest adventure center. In Hohenschwangau there are also opportunities to get to know the landscape without using the closed gorge path. Check the official notification before visiting later - the closure may change.
Good to know: They do not confirm the release of the gorge path.
AN ACTIVE AFTERNOON IN SCHWANGAU
At the valley station of the Tegelbergbahn there is a summer toboggan run with a 760 meter long route. The excursion can be combined with the playground without having to drive up the mountain. This is a good addition to a day in Schwangau, especially for families.
Age rules apply for use: children aged three to seven travel with an adult accompanying them, from eight years old they are allowed to travel alone; Children under three years of age are not allowed to use the train. Operation is weather dependent. Check the current information in advance and decide on site that suits your children.
Good to know: The photos show the surroundings of the Tegelberg and the mountain railway in winter, not a detailed view of the summer toboggan run.
PLAY TOGETHER
Mini golf brings the family together without having to plan a whole day. In Bad Faulenbach and Hopfen am See you can combine the game with a walk or a break by the water. The small challenge on each track ensures that even a quiet afternoon remains varied.
Choose the place that suits the rest of your trip. After playing, there is a path to the small lakes in Bad Faulenbach and the waterfront promenade in Hopfen. The facilities are seasonal; You should check the current times before you arrive.
Good to know: The gallery shows Obersee and Hopfensee as excursion destinations near the mini golf courses.
THE REGION FROM THE WATER
A trip on the Forggensee changes the view of the region: mountains, city silhouettes and castle landscapes pass by from the water. For children, boarding and watching the ship is a separate part of the excursion.
You can choose between a shorter or longer tour. The current timetable shows duration, departures and landing points. Allow some time for the boat harbor before setting off and take appropriate clothing for wind on the water. The shipping takes place in season; Water level and operation must be taken into account.
Good to know: Check travel times and tickets with the operator. A stopover can extend the trip if the timetable fits.
BALANCING BETWEEN THE TREES
The Höllschlucht forest ropes course offers courses with different heights and requirements. This is about balance, skill and the feeling of moving from station to station. Instruction and security are part of the visit.
The selection depends on age and ability. Children aged six to nine must have an accompanying adult climbing with them; Individual courses have additional requirements. Plan enough time for instruction, equipment and breaks. If you prefer to stay on the ground, you can combine a trip into the area with a walk.
Good to know: Check age, size and accompanying rules with the operator before booking.
ON THE ICE – EVEN WITHOUT A CLUB
Füssen is closely linked to ice sports. During the public run at the federal base, you can get on the ice yourself and do a few laps with the family. This fits in with an active excursion where you can experience the region in a different way.
The public running times are based on the current hall plan and are not the same every day. Check appointments and information about equipment or rentals with the operator. For children who are on the ice for the first time, it is worth taking a slow pace and giving them enough time to get used to it.
WATER TIME IN COOL WEATHER
For a day of swimming in cool weather, the Kristalltherme in Schwangau and the Alpentherme Ehrenberg in Reutte are options. The offers differ: So check in advance which pools and areas are right for your family. The Alpentherme separates the bathing world and the sauna; The sauna area is only accessible from 16 years.
At the Kristalltherme, the current opening and textile rules are particularly important. Check current operations before planning this trip. The respective bathing and age rules apply to both houses.
Good to know: When visiting, always use the current information for the respective house.

DISCOVER THE FOREST ON YOUR OWN PATHS
In the forest adventure center at Füssen, it is worth exploring not only the treetop path but also the paths on the forest floor. Your own pictures from the high trail show a narrow path, wooden steps, the wooded slope and a small hut. The focus here is on being out and about between the trees.
Combine the forest walk with the currently accessible adventure offers in Ziegelwies. For families, it's nice not to pack too many stops into a tight schedule: observe the plants, take breaks and choose the length of the route to suit the children's stamina. The mountain path with its steps and uneven sections is different than a flat walking path.
Good to know: Check current access, route map and opening of the forest adventure center. Choose a suitable path with a stroller.
CLIMBING AND BOULDERING IN THE ALLGÄU
In Rieden am Forggensee, the DAV climbing center Allgäu offers an alternative to a day outside in the mountains. The climbing walls open up different routes; Bouldering is about movements and small climbing problems at a lower altitude. Our pictures show the interior walls and exterior of the facility.
For families and beginners, a course or a supervised offer is a good start. Rope climbing requires solid knowledge of belaying; the hall does not replace this. Choose the right activity before your visit and inquire about instructions, equipment and offers for children. A break in the bistro can be combined with the day of climbing.
Good to know: Rules, age requirements and required security knowledge differ depending on the offer. Check course places and opening times in advance.
WATCHING RED DEER IN WINTER
In winter, red deer come to the feeding place at Schwangau. Antlers, the behavior of the animals and the number of deer make the visit a special nature experience. Our photos show animals at the feeding place and a view of the surrounding landscape.
Schwangau describes the access as a winter walk from the Karbrücke in the Brunnen district. The observation period is usually between the end of December and the beginning of March. During a nature tour, the hunters tell you more about the animals and their habitat. Plan the excursion based on the current dates and keep the specified distance at the observation point.
Good to know: Check the date and travel conditions in advance. Observe animals calmly and follow the on-site instructions.

LIGHTS BETWEEN HISTORIC WALLS
When the lights come on in Ehrenberg, the castle landscape at Reutte changes. Luminous figures, colors and illuminated walls accompany the tour. Our own pictures show the winter visit with light motifs between the historical ruins.
LUMAGICA is a seasonal evening offer with its own tickets and match days. Lighting may change between editions. Therefore, plan based on the current program and reserve the appropriate time slot. Sturdy shoes and warm clothing are recommended for walking through the facility. The Ehrenberg Liner can facilitate access for an additional charge; Other offers such as the highline179 have their own conditions.
Good to know: View the current season, admission times and services directly from the organizer. Our photos show an earlier edition.
PLAY WITH A VIEW OF THE TYROLEAN MOUNTAINS
At Hahnenkamm near Höfen and Reutte, families can combine a day in the mountains with play stations. Next to the mountain station there is a wooden marble run, a tree house with a suspension bridge and tube slides. There are further opportunities for an outdoor break at the mountain lake. Our pictures show the play area, the lake and the view of the mountain landscape.
The cable car takes you to the excursion area. Depending on your stamina, you can combine your visit with a walk, the Alpine Rose Trail or the Alpine Garden. The panoramic restaurant is located near the mountain station. Plan enough time to play and choose an additional hike that suits the age of the children.
Good to know: Train, game offerings and access depend on the season and weather. Check current operating times and information from the operator.
MOVE IN ANY WEATHER
A trip to Kempten can be combined with a visit to the DAV climbing center swoboda alpin. When bouldering, you look for solutions to short climbing problems at jump height without a rope. Rope climbing focuses on longer routes and safe interaction with your belay partner. Your own picture gives an impression of the visit to the hall in Kempten.
For a first attempt with the family, a supervised offer from the climbing school is worthwhile. There you can get to know technology and security step by step. Choose the offer that suits your previous experience and age; You can find course places, equipment and visiting rules directly from the operator.
Good to know: View hall rules and course conditions before visiting. Rope climbing requires safe belaying skills.
